Production of baccatin ¥² by plant cell culture

Abstract
The semi-synthesis of taxol using the biosynthetic precursor, baccatin ¥², is one of the suggested alternative methods for economical production of taxol. The purpose of the study is to establish the high yielding culture system purchasing the development of the method for the economical production of baccatin ¥². In this study, the regulation of biosynthetic metabolism in cell suspension culture system of Taxus cuspidata was experimented by feeding biosynthetic precursors of baccatin ¥² and other diterpenes, using the fast growing and highly productive callus lines which were selected in the previous experiments as the result of cultures for five years. The production of baccatin ¥² in the cultured cells was analysed by HPLC.
